The Brutal Lesson That Taught Me the Power of Accountability

March and April were tough months for me.

From the outside, it looked like I was winning:

๐ŸŒŸ My son Ezra got accepted into Harrow School.
๐Ÿก I bought my first property, as a single mum, following redundancy and divorce.

But behind the scenes? I was exhausted.

Alone.
And, honestly, heartbroken.

What no one saw was how much I was struggling with the silence from my closest friends โ€” many of them people Iโ€™d known for over a decade.

During one of the hardest 18-month periods of my life โ€” separation, divorce, job loss, moving home with two kids and literally no money left โ€” not one person showed up with groceries, a candle, flowers, or even just company.

I didnโ€™t notice it at first because Iโ€™m a busybody by nature. I kept showing up for them โ€” driving over, making time, planning dinners. But when I sold my car and had nothing left to giveโ€ฆ the silence was deafening.

So in April, I did something I hadnโ€™t needed to do for a while. I started speaking up.

I had real conversations with the friends who let me down. I said what needed to be said โ€” not to shame anyone, but because leaving things unspoken weighs me down and blocks my flow. And it was blocking my productivity.

I had stopped showing up for myself:

  • No makeup

  • Living in joggers

  • Working from the sofa

  • And wondering why my energy โ€” and sales โ€” were low

But I turned a corner. And the shift wasnโ€™t magic. It was accountability.

Hereโ€™s what helped me get my spark back:

๐Ÿ”ฅ 1. I Created an Accountability WhatsApp Group
With two fellow boss mums (one also newly divorced and about to publish her third book!) โ€” we talk about everything from launches to healing to dating again. Last Friday, we had a 2-hour virtual co-working session and it was pure gold. I left buzzing.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 2. I Invested in My Space & Self
I bought a proper chest of drawers (you donโ€™t realise how much disorganisation slows you down until you canโ€™t find your socks). I got my hair done. I started caring again โ€” about my home, my body, my peace.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 3. I Got Dressed
Makeup. Proper clothes. Not for the algorithm, but for me. For the version of myself who used to show up to the office as the polished, put-together woman she worked hard to become.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 4. The Results?
Within days, a new client found me โ€” an influencer with a packed to-do list who hired me as her daily 90-minute co-working and accountability partner. Monday to Friday, every evening.

Energy attracts energy. Accountability builds momentum.
