Organised Home
The relief I felt when I got the keys to my first property on 21st March this year is something I can’t quite put into words.
It was a huge achievement as a recently divorced single mum of two. But when you add the fact that I had also recently been made redundant into the mix, it was actually nothing short of a miracle!
From the end of 2024, after not being able to land another EA role despite my solid CV and excellent references — including experience with some of the top private equity firms in the world, I decided to take it as a sign and realised that it was time to stop running away from my purpose and instead decide to pour every ounce of energy into building my business, The Organised Kollective. I had been dreaming of this moment for over a decade: helping ambitious mums create lives of peace, productivity, and purpose by mastering time management.
In just 12 weeks, I went from redundancy to business launch and buying my first home. It was a whirlwind, and I had just enough money to get the essentials for my new place. While I could afford some furniture, there was no room in the budget for a chest of drawers for my bedroom. So, I improvised. I used wicker baskets for toiletries, underwear, and PJs, and kept them on the base of my wardrobe — thinking, "No big deal, I’ll get the chest of drawers in a month or so."
But let me tell you, living like that for nearly a month really took a toll on my mind. The disorganisation messed with my sense of peace and productivity, especially in the mornings. Every time I had to dig through those baskets to get dressed, it frustrated me. I sat at my desk trying to work, but that little disruption lingered, affecting my focus for hours.
Fast forward to last week, and I was thrilled to discover that I was owed some money from HMRC. Guess what the first thing on my shopping list was? Yep — a chest of drawers. I found a secondhand one on Facebook Marketplace, picked it up, and spent Saturday arranging everything neatly. By Sunday morning, I felt a renewed sense of clarity and productivity. It was amazing how something as simple as an organised space could shift my entire mindset.
This experience reminded me just how vital it is to have an organised space to work, rest, and live. Whether it’s your bedroom, office, or even the kids' rooms, a tidy and functional environment can do wonders for your productivity and peace of mind.
